Music is of a style, of a time, of architecture and technology.
An exploration of how two great American Composers' work progressed paralleling rapid and dramatic changes in contemporary Culture, and how one can hear the style of the architecture in the music, and how the music reflected current events.
How interwined they were - Barber's 1st Symphony premiered by the RCA Orchestra at Rockefeller Center - an Art Deco Icon... and how Bernstein's West Side Story spoke of the transformation of the part of Manhattan that became, ironically, Lincoln Center - whose opening was commemorated by Barber's Piano Concerto - premiered at the opening Gala.
Don't need to be a classical buff to appreciate this one, all welcome.
