These courses are ideal for any student who wants to begin a new discipline, expand their musical understanding, or simply try something out. Choose an appropriate course based on age and skill level. Email or call for details. 

Music Time for Babies & Toddlers, English and Bilingual

6 Months–3  Years

This class provides a wonderful opportunity for babies and toddlers to discover the joys of making music through singing, chanting, simple finger plays, wiggles, tickles, bouncing, listening and movement. Age-appropriate percussion instruments are used to internalize a steady beat. Concepts such as numbers, seasons, animals, family members, and body/spatial awareness are reinforced through identification games and musical play. Adults receive guidance on their children’s musical development along with tools to create a nurturing musical environment at home.

Adventures in Music

3–5 Years

In this class, young children and their parents/caregivers engage in a wide variety of musical activities, including singing as well as playing age-appropriate percussion instruments. Circle dances and movement activities are also crucial components of this course. For older children, more complex songs and games are used to reinforce and expand musical concepts such as beat, rhythm, melodic form, expression, and harmony.

Songwriting for Teens

13–18 Years

Learn how to write your own songs. Discover how to create chord progressions and compose melodies and lyrics. Develop your creativity.

Intro to DJ-ing

13 Years to Adult

Intro to DJ-ing is a DJ course that will teach participants the fundamentals of the disc jockey craft. The class will explore the technique and mathematics of DJ-ing. Students will learn how to use modern and professional DJ equipment, known as digital controllers, and the Serato software.

Jazz Ear Training

13 Years to Adult

This class focuses on developing fundamental ear training skills, with an emphasis on jazz music. Students will learn to identify the harmony, melodies, and rhythms that are essential elements of jazz.

Music Labs

6 Years to Adult

Music Lab I
Designed to prepare students for music lessons and to help them to advance more quickly at their instrument of choice. Students will learn the basic concepts of rhythm and music notation and develop their singing and listening skills.

Music Lab II
Includes creative projects, performing rhythms, sight reading music, and listening exercises. Students will also complete individualized lessons and assignments based on their progress. The class will culminate in a composition project that the students will perform for one another in class. This class is appropriate for students who have not yet begun to study an instrument or who are in their first year of instrumental study.

Composition Lab
Includes a review of practical music theory, ear training, and musicianship skills. Students will develop composition skills such as basic harmony and counterpoint, improvisation, writing for instruments, using music notation and music production software.

Listening Music Lab
Studies some of the best-known music of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries to understand the composer’s approach to musicianship, creativity, and interpretation, and their arrangement of their new and old repertoire.
